Despite concerns raised by journalists, academics, and global technology companies over free speech and abuse of power, the Singapore government has passed the 'Protection From Online Falsehoods and Manipulation' bill.
The bill allows government ministers to hold individuals and online platforms accountable for what the government considers 'malicious falsehoods' that harm public interest.
We speak to Gayathry Venkiteswaran, Assistant Professor of Media and Communications at the University of Nottingham Malaysia, to get some insights into the issue.
