Rise of Teen Pregnancies in Malaysia

The Ministry of Health's Teen Pregnancy Statistics Manual reported 18,652 and 18,847 teen pregnancies in 2011 and 2012 respectively, which translates to about 51 teen pregnancies a day. More worryingly, about 3 out of every 10 teen births occur out of wedlock. Why is teen pregnancy on the rise in Malaysia? Here to help us understand is Dr. Nik Rubiah Nik Abdul Rashid, who is a Senior Principal Assistant Director of the Adolescent Health Unit, Family Health Development Division in the Ministry of Health.
