Public Health: How Will Our Nursing Profession Recover?

Malaysia’s nurses are a silent force in the healthcare system. They are responsible for the seamless and meticulous delivery of care to patients, not only in terms of clinical treatments, but also in ensuring the administrative procedures of health services. They play a key role in understanding patients’ needs, and providing comfort to them and their family members. But the nurses in our public and private hospitals are at a critical crossroads, facing challenges and increasing pressure amid a strained healthcare system. On our Public Health show today, Dr Siti Khuzaimah Ahmad Sharoni, Head of the Centre for Nursing Studies at UiTM, joins us to unpack the question of why there are insufficient nurses in our healthcare system, and what we need to do to train and recruit more skilled nurses.
