BERSIH 3.0: Pushing for Electoral Reforms by GE 13

Election watchdog group Bersih 2.0 has announced that it will hold its third rally, which will be a sit-in protest or “Duduk Bantah” for free and fair elections on April 28th at Dataran Merdeka.

Dato' Ambiga Sreenevasan, Co-Chairperson of the BERSIH 2.0 Steering Comittee and former Malaysian Bar Council President,  elaborates in the following interview on:

- The rationale for organizing BERSIH 3.0 as a sit-in to protest and what “Duduk Bantah”  hopes to achieve

- Why BERSIH have disagreed with some of the recommendations presented by the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on electoral reforms, and their concerns on whether these recommendations can be implemented in time for the coming 13th General Election

- The scale and scope of the event, and whether there will there be multiple simultaneous sit-ins apart from the planned one at Dataran Merdeka

- How the Peaceful Assembly Bill affects the possibility of this rally taking place, particularly with regard to restrictions on protesters

- The reasoning behind allowing international observers to monitor poll and why postal voting has been a point of contention for the coming elections
